She has been at YAX for over 17 years as a faculty artist, director of programs, and most recently deputy director. She is an educator, designer and choreographer and holds a B.A. in psychology from UC Berkeley and a Masters in Architecture from California College of the Arts. She is an architectural designer with an emphasis on social design. She received a fellowship from CCA and worked with the Manguinhos favela community in Rio de Janeiro under the Brazilian architect Jorge Mario Jauregui and his Favela/Barrio project. She has spent over a decade working at the intersection of arts and youth development as an educator teaching architecture and dance to public high school students. She is also the founder and artistic director of Sambaxé dance company, and is a world dance faculty member for almost 2 decades at ODC in San Francisco. A long-time resident of San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, KT brings over a decade of experience in public arts programming and public art installations. They are the co-founder of Moth Belly Gallery, an artist-run space uplifting underrepresented Bay Area artists through exhibitions, events, and media. Since 2021, the gallery has curated over 40 shows, featured hundreds of local artists, revived the Tenderloin and Lower Polk First Thursday Art Walk, and hosted public programs like figure drawing nights, all-ages shows, and artist talks. As a practicing artist, KT’s work can be found across San Francisco in both indoor and outdoor spaces, including public murals and collaborative installations on the JFK Promenade, in Nob Hill, and the Outer Richmond. Alfie Macias is an accomplished artist and educator who has dedicated his career to fostering youth development and empowerment through music. With over 15 years of experience as a San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Artist in Residency, Alfie has made a profound impact on the lives of countless young individuals. For 12 years, Alfie served as the Co-Musical Director of Loco Bloco, a renowned youth performance group based in San Francisco's Mission District. Loco Bloco has gained recognition both nationally and internationally, captivating audiences with their vibrant and culturally rich performances. Alfie's dedication to working with at-risk youth from underserved communities is reflected in his collaborations with San Francisco and San Mateo incarcerated youth through his music mentorship programs. In addition to his work with Loco Bloco, Alfie has spent 15 years as a Music Instructor at Youth Art Exchange, imparting his knowledge and passion to aspiring young artists. As a visionary, he has created the Traditional Percussion Internship in collaboration with SFJAZZ and Youth Art Exchange, providing invaluable opportunities for budding musicians to explore their craft and the musical traditions of the African Diaspora. Notably, Alfie's youth performances and social justice initiatives were featured in the closing of Harry Belafonte's Documentary film, "Sing Your Song," showcasing his ability to blend artistic expression with important societal issues. Alfie's exceptional musical talents extend beyond performance and instruction. After leaving Loco Bloco in 2010, Alfie Macias currently holds the role of Musical Director for Sambaxé, a Brazilian Dance Company that was crowned champions of San Francisco Carnaval in both 2022 and 2023. After relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area, Megan joined Juma Ventures and later worked as Development Director at Creativity Explored, a San Francisco art studio for disabled artists, where she helped double its contributed revenue. In her current role as Juma’s Director of Individual Giving, she leads the major gift strategy, manages advisory boards, and oversees the national fundraising gala. I know how art can positively impact a youth's self-confidence, sense of belonging, well-being, and overall mental health. When I was a school-based clinician at a struggling public school, I set about joining the community as an act of solidarity rather than an act of charity. I partnered with the art teacher to create an installation that would hang in my office for the duration of my tenure there. I gave her the quote "bloom where you are planted" and asked that the students to create artwork based on that quote. The result was a welcoming, joyful, hopeful, symbol for everyone. She has been at YAX for over 17 years as a faculty artist, director of programs, and most recently deputy director. She is an educator, designer and choreographer and holds a B.A. in psychology from UC Berkeley and a Masters in Architecture from California College of the Arts. She is an architectural designer with an emphasis on social design. She received a fellowship from CCA and worked with the Manguinhos favela community in Rio de Janeiro under the Brazilian architect Jorge Mario Jauregui and his Favela/Barrio project. She has spent over a decade working at the intersection of arts and youth development as an educator teaching architecture and dance to public high school students. She is also the founder and artistic director of Sambaxé dance company, and is a world dance faculty member for almost 2 decades at ODC in San Francisco. A long-time resident of San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, KT brings over a decade of experience in public arts programming and public art installations. They are the co-founder of Moth Belly Gallery, an artist-run space uplifting underrepresented Bay Area artists through exhibitions, events, and media. Since 2021, the gallery has curated over 40 shows, featured hundreds of local artists, revived the Tenderloin and Lower Polk First Thursday Art Walk, and hosted public programs like figure drawing nights, all-ages shows, and artist talks. As a practicing artist, KT’s work can be found across San Francisco in both indoor and outdoor spaces, including public murals and collaborative installations on the JFK Promenade, in Nob Hill, and the Outer Richmond. Alfie Macias is an accomplished artist and educator who has dedicated his career to fostering youth development and empowerment through music. With over 15 years of experience as a San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Artist in Residency, Alfie has made a profound impact on the lives of countless young individuals. For 12 years, Alfie served as the Co-Musical Director of Loco Bloco, a renowned youth performance group based in San Francisco's Mission District. Loco Bloco has gained recognition both nationally and internationally, captivating audiences with their vibrant and culturally rich performances. Alfie's dedication to working with at-risk youth from underserved communities is reflected in his collaborations with San Francisco and San Mateo incarcerated youth through his music mentorship programs. In addition to his work with Loco Bloco, Alfie has spent 15 years as a Music Instructor at Youth Art Exchange, imparting his knowledge and passion to aspiring young artists. As a visionary, he has created the Traditional Percussion Internship in collaboration with SFJAZZ and Youth Art Exchange, providing invaluable opportunities for budding musicians to explore their craft and the musical traditions of the African Diaspora. Notably, Alfie's youth performances and social justice initiatives were featured in the closing of Harry Belafonte's Documentary film, "Sing Your Song," showcasing his ability to blend artistic expression with important societal issues. Carrie has been a public school arts educator for 8 years and has experience teaching a range of ages from K-12. She is originally from the rural midwest, where she grew up and went to school. Carrie graduated from Purdue University in 2011 with a double major in arts education and fine art with a concentration in printmaking and painting. For her personal art practice, Carrie likes to work in many different mediums and is constantly learning new skills. While she mainly works in painting, drawing, and printmaking, she also works in ceramics and textiles. Carrie has been a member of a local Coop Art Gallery in the Mission District, City Art Gallery, since 2018. Her artwork and fashion design has been featured throughout the Bay Area, cross-country and in the Philippines and Korea. She founded the streetwear clothing brand Empire in the Air which uses apparel and community events to inspire others to build their empires. Not only does she serve SF youth as YAX’s Fashion Design Instructor, she is also the Filipinx-American Teaching Artist at Root Division where she teaches art projects that aim to celebrate Filipinx and Fil-Am history and cultures. Having dabbled as a gardener, a blacksmith, a potter, and a woodshop assistant, Havel likes to think things through with his hands, and incorporates the physical act of making throughout the design process. While her children attended SFUSD’s Jefferson Elementary, she worked as the art coordinator, providing art enrichment programs to classrooms and leading community-based art installation projects. Most recently, Haya served as a teaching artist for Green Art Workshop where she facilitated a wide variety of workshops throughout the Bay Area with an emphasis on upcycled art. With his father from Ireland and his mother from Los Angeles, he was inspired at a young age from an eclectic background of different types of music. He grew up listening to their large collection of vinyl with genres ranging from reggae, blues, jazz, hip-hop, house, and punk. He quickly developed an obsession for music, picked up trumpet and tried out several instruments throughout his school years. At San Diego State, he hosted his first radio show where he played vinyl records he would find in the dollar section of a local record store. It wasn’t until he took a break from education and returned to San Francisco when he started buying samplers and producing hip-hop songs for his friends that it clicked that music could be something he could pursue a career in. He later returned to college at SF State, where he received his degree in Broadcasting and Electronic Communication Arts with an emphasis in Music Production. She has worked on over thirty murals in Berkeley and Oakland, CA; Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Bronx, NY; Atlanta, GA; Miami, FL; and Akumal, Mexico. Her mural work is made in collaboration with students and community members and seeks to visually represent the cultural richness and social justice themes relevant to the specific area. Outside of muralism her paintings explore queer immigrant identity and Russian folk art. Díaz-Infante is a full-time faculty member in Printmaking, Drawing, and Design at the City College of San Francisco. She holds a BA in Art from Yale University, an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and a Collegiate Teaching Certificate from Brown University. She has exhibited nationally and within México and is an alumna of the Djerassi Resident Artist Program. Josh focuses on opportunities in the healthcare space. Prior to TPG, Josh worked with Morgan Stanley’s investment bank, based in New York. Josh’s favorite artists are, in no particular order, Joel Amit, Dave Matthews, and Thom Yorke. Josh first started working with YAX in 2016. A San Francisco transplant, Josh is originally from New Jersey and now lives in North Beach with his partner, Marissa. You may have seen his crowd-sourced City of Awesome paintings when they filled 10 public buses as part of the 2015 SF Muni Art program. Todd also uses his art to deepen understanding in all subjects as a specialist in arts integration. He is the director of Uphill Arts and manages Where Art Lives, a program providing arts education for students of San Francisco public schools. From 2015-2020, he served as Executive Director of the Arts Education Alliance of the Bay Area. He now resides and makes art in a Bernal Heights apartment with a view of the Excelsior District. He is a recent graduate from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Previously, he worked for TPG Growth, a private equity firm in San Francisco, and Morgan Stanley in New York, after graduating from the University of Virginia with a major in Commerce. He was born in Vancouver, Canada and spent some time living in Dubai before moving to Philadelphia during high school. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in Mechanical Engineering along with taking art classes with an emphasis on printmaking. He worked as an engineer at Honda, troubleshooting the ‘96 Civic and at Bryte Technologies, testing aerospace materials, before deciding to start volunteering at the Exploratorium 15 years ago. For six years, Steve managed exhibit design and engineering staff and led over 100 projects, including creating some of the first hands-on exhibits at science institutions around the world. In ’99 Steve helped establish the first Science of Skateboarding program which matured over the years to involve curating two exhibitions, professional demos, a website, a TV show, and a mobile exhibition. He took a one-year sabbatical to work at Pèndulum and design the Jardi de les Percepcions, an outdoor exhibit area in Parc de Vallparadís, Terrassa, Spain. Upon returning to the Exploratorium, Steve managed a National Science Foundation project to build and study twenty outdoor exhibits at Fort Mason, a National Park on San Francisco’s waterfront. He enjoyed the nature of this work so much that he spent the last eight years in the Studio for Public Spaces leading a team of designers, engineers, and architects, focused on creating social learning environments in public spaces. As a youth, he was was an avid clarinet player, participating in his high school wind ensemble and orchestras, as well as the Greater New Haven Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Although he no longer has time to play, Yuning can often be found at Davies listening to the San Francisco Symphony or wandering about at the De Young. He recognizes the profound impact that art had on him as a youth and is excited to have the opportunity to advance the organization’s mission and serve the youth of San Francisco. Since graduation, Yuning has been working in finance, first as an investment banker at Evercore in New York City and now at TPG Capital in San Francisco. He graduated from Harvard University where he studied statistics and economics. In her role, she develops communication strategies and campaigns that bring more awareness about the programs, services, and people that make up the SFPUC. Before joining this agency, Marie-Claire worked in the Mayor's Communications Office, serving 3 different mayors in the span of two years. Marie-Claire was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, grew up in San Francisco, studied in Paris and did a quick stint in Nicaragua.
