We offer free year-round programming for San Francisco public high school students. We are currently enrolling for our summer 2019 free arts intensives.

Our Summer 2019 session includes: ArtBUILD, Filmmaking, Music Production, and Printmaking. Click the button below to read descriptions and locations of each program.

There will be will be an orientation for accepted candidates on Wednesday, May 29th from 4-5:30pm.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  1. The Filmmaking, Music Production and Printmaking programs are open to rising 9th – 12th graders who will be enrolled in a San Francisco public high school for Fall 2019. The ArtBUILD program is only open to rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) who will be enrolled in a San Francisco public high school for Fall 2019.

  2. Ideal candidates are focused, community engaged and artistically inclined. YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL WORKDAYS.

  3. In alignment with YAX’s mission, this program is free for participants in order expand access to and equity in the arts. There is a $50 materials fee. *This fee may be waived if it is a barrier to participation. Please email sofia@youthartexchange.org to request the fee to be waived.

YAX Summer 2019 Arts Intensive Descriptions

ARTBUILD

ArtBUILD is an interdisciplinary architecture, fashion, art, and design program. It is a program which applies the principles of design thinking to real-world issues.

  • Where: The ArtBUILD program will take place at Youth Art Exchange, 29 Howth Street; but you will also spend a significant amount of time working off-site meeting professional artists and working in the community.

  • When: Monday, July 8th – Thursday, August 1st, 2019 | Mondays – Thursdays, 10AM-3PM

  • Who: The ArtBUILD program is only open to rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) who will be enrolled in a San Francisco public high school for Fall 2019.

FILMMAKING

Learn to write, direct, and edit your own short films as well as collaborate with other students to tell their stories. We will learn all aspects of film production like screenwriting, pre-production, cinematography, directing, sound design, animation, and editing.

MUSIC PRODUCTION

Work with professional DJ software and equipment to make your own beats, sample music, and perform/DJ.

  • Where: The music program will take place at Youth Art Exchange, 29 Howth Street; but you will also spend a significant amount of time working off-site meeting professional artists and working in the community.

PRINTMAKING

Create your own graphics to print on t-shirts, material, and paper. Replicate your ideas, designs, and drawings in a professional printshop.

  • Where: The printmaking program will take place at [x]space Arts Hub, 5137 Mission Street; but you will also spend a significant amount of time working off-site meeting professional artists and working in the community.community.
