Community Screen Printing Open Studio

Youth Art Exchange is excited to offer a Community Screen Printing Open Studio at our Kapuso Print Studio. This program gives adults time, space, and tools to work independently on their own screen printing projects in a supportive studio environment.

Who This Is For

The Community Screen Printing Open Studio is designed for adults of all experience levels who are interested in working on personal projects. You can be brand new to screen printing or have years of experience.

Teens who are interested in screen printing can join our Youth Open Studios on Wednesdays instead of this adult program.

When and Where

  • Location: Youth Art Exchange Kapuso site, 2330 San Jose Ave, San Francisco
  • Schedule: 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month
  • Time: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Program Start: January 2025

Pricing

  • Drop in: $35 per session
    Perfect if you want to try it out or come occasionally.
  • 6 session multi-pass: $140
    Best for people who plan to attend regularly.

Our goal is to keep Open Studio affordable while supporting staff, supplies, and long term sustainability of the print studio.

What Is Included

During Open Studio, participants have access to:

  • Fully equipped screen printing studio
  • Basic screen printing supplies (screens, squeegees, inks, tape, cleaning materials)
  • Use of washout station and exposure unit
  • On site Studio Manager for troubleshooting and light guidance

Artists working on high volume or mass printing projects may have some limitations on materials. Please talk with staff on site if you are planning a large edition or a big print run.

How It Works

  1. Register online in advance to reserve your spot. Limited capacity helps keep the studio safe and comfortable.
  2. Bring your own screens if you have them, or use our shared studio screens as available.
  3. Bring your own paper, fabric, or other print surfaces. Limited scrap materials may be available, but are not guaranteed.
  4. Work independently on your projects. Staff will be available for basic support and troubleshooting, not full instruction.

Studio Guidelines

  • All participants must follow studio safety and cleaning procedures.
  • Set up and clean up time must be included in your session time.
  • No use of hazardous materials outside of what is approved for the studio.
  • Respect for shared equipment, space, and other artists is required.
