Our spaces
Our two new creative spaces support our mission to further SF youth as leaders, thinkers and artists by offering places to learn, gather, exhibit, and thrive.
YAX Studios at La Fenix (1950 Mission)
A new space on the ground floor of one of Mission Housing Development Corporation’s new 100% affordable housing buildings. Our Mission District space is a vibrant hub for events, meetings, and workshops. Host your gathering in a creative environment with access to a mural-lined courtyard, an outdoor stage for performances, and flexible studio spaces for classes or workshops. It’s the perfect spot to connect, create, and be inspired in the heart of the Mission.
Kapuso Gallery & Studio (2300 San Jose Avenue)
Our second Excelsior space is a truly flexible venue — perfect for art gallery shows, dance classes, yoga sessions, and more. With mirrored walls for movement-based workshops and rolling drywall panels for hanging artwork, you can easily transform the room to fit your vision. Just like our other site, it’s steps from public transit.
YAX Studios at Kapuso (400 Geneva Avenue)
A new space on the ground floor of one of Mission Housing Development Corporation’s new 100% affordable housing buildings. This Excelsior space is home to our Fashion and Screen Printing studios, making it the perfect backdrop for creative workshops, parties, and company “off-sites”. This versatile venue is designed to inspire, whether you’re teaching, collaborating, or celebrating. Located just steps from major public transit, it’s easily accessible for you and your guests.
YAX selected the La Fénix and Kapuso sites because they 1) offer prime locations in the neighborhoods in which we’ve operated [mostly in borrowed or shared spaces] for nearly two decades, 2) offer reduced occupancy costs, 3) enable us to reach more low income youth of color, their families, and their neighbors at 100% affordable housing buildings, and 4) provide new earned income from space rentals and fee-for-service activities.
